Karen Glanz, PhD, MPH, came to Emory from the Cancer Research
Center of Hawaii at the University of Hawaii, where she was Professor
and Director of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Program, from
1993 to 2003. Dr. Glanz joined the faculty at Emory in 2004 and
was designated as a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Research
Scholar. Currently, Dr. Glanz is Director of the Emory
Prevention Research Center, funded by the U.S.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Glanz is a Charles Howard Candler Professor in the Department
of Behavioral Sciences and Health Education (BSHE) at the Rollins
School of Public Health (RSPH). Dr. Glanz leads the Health Behavior
Research Group at the Winship Cancer Institute and is co-leader
of the Community Engagement Program of the Atlanta Clinical and
Translational Science Institute (ACTSI), funded by the National
Institutes of Health.
She is a member of the federally appointed Task Force on Community
Preventive Services and was recognized in 2006 as a Highly Cited
Author by ISIHighlyCited.com,
in the top 0.5% of authors in her field over a 20-year period. Her
scholarly contributions consist of more than 270 journal articles
and book chapters. Dr. Glanz was the 2007 winner of the Elizabeth
Fries Health Education Award from the James
F. and Sarah T. Fries Foundation; this award recognizes a health
educator who has made a substantial contribution to advancing the
field of health education or health promotion through research,
program development, or program delivery.
Dr. Glanz’s research emphasizes studies of modifiable risk behaviors,
early detection, social and health policy, and the use of new health
communication technologies for disease prevention. She has recently
been leading research in the areas of skin cancer prevention, nutrition
and chronic disease prevention, colorectal cancer screening, and
tobacco control. Dr. Glanz and her team are committed to conducting
scientific research with promising short-and long-term application
to improved community health, health care, and public health services.

Dawn Hall, MPH is a senior research project coordinator at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Dawn graduated from the University of Georgia in 2005 with a BSA in Biological Sciences, and in 2007, she received her MPH in Behavioral Sciences from Emory University. Dawn has been a part of the Pool Cool research team since 2005 and has collaborated with others to publish study findings on lifeguard sun safety, process evaluation, and methods for measuring sunscreen use. |
